Jorge L. Pérez Alati is one of the founding partners of PAGBAM. He is internationally recognized as one of the most experienced and solid transactional Argentine lawyers. He leads our Firm’s Merger and Acquisition Practice, having actively participated in the largest private acquisitions that took place in Argentina over the last two decades.
Mr. Pérez Alati represents all types of local and foreign investors in a full range of projects in Argentina including mergers and acquisitions of banks, companies, assets, private equity transactions, business combinations, corporate and assets reorganizations, etc. He is particularly versed on cross-border and international transactions.
In addition, he regularly advises clients on matters or Argentine corporate law (such as setting up of corporate entities, subsidiaries, branches, disputes between shareholders, board of directors and internal committees matters, corporate governance) and contracts law.
Education
Jorge L. Pérez Alati received his law degree from the Argentine Catholic University (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in 1977 and his L.L.M. from Columbia University Law School (New York, NY, United States of America) in 1979.
In addition, he attended the Academy of American and International Law, Southwestern Legal Foundation in Dallas, Texas, United States of America in 1978 where he was awarded with the Southwestern Legal Foundation Scholarship and the John N. Johnson Scolarship.
Academic & Professional Experience
Previous to founding PAGBAM, Jorge L. Pérez Alati was associated with the New York law firm, Dewey, Ballantine, 1979-1980 and with Argentinean law firm Klein & Mairal, 1981-1991.
In addition to his professional practice, Mr. Pérez Alati has been Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law for the School of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, Assistant Professor of Commercial Law for the School of Law of the Argentine Catholic University and Assistant Professor of Capital Markets and Financial Entities for the ESEADE Institute.
He is a member of the Social Economic Council of Torcuato - Universidad Di Tella; President of the Advisory Council of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella Law School; President of the I.D.E.C. Advisory Council at Universidad Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain); and a former member of the Advisory Committee of the BCBA for the appointment of arbitrators. He served as a Board Member of the Buenos Aires City Bar Association during the 2013–2014 and 2015–2016 terms. He is an International Patron of the Prado Museum in Madrid.
Member of the Board of Directors (and also acts as President or Vice-President in such bodies) in various Argentine and international companies and is regularly invited as speaker in domestic and international congresses and seminars.
