Nuevo Acuerdo Marco Avanzado entre Chile y la Unión Europea

Con el objeto de reforzar las relaciones comerciales y la inversión extranjera, el 13 de diciembre de 2023, Chile y la Unión Europea firmaron el Acuerdo Marco Avanzado (el “Acuerdo”).

El eje central del Acuerdo se basa en sustentabilidad, innovación tecnológica, eliminación arancelaria, inversión y seguridad jurídica para Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas (“PYMES”).

Entre las principales innovaciones del Acuerdo, podemos destacar las siguientes:

  • Contribuye a la transición hacia las energías renovables y el uso sostenible de materias primas: mayor acceso a materias primas y combustibles limpios y evaluación de impacto ambiental, entre otros.
  • Atención renovada en ciencia, tecnología, investigación y cooperación dirigida a la innovación.
  • Se eliminan aranceles: El 99,9% de las exportaciones desde la Unión Europea podrán entrar a Chile sin derechos. Chile eliminará aranceles sobre productos lácteos.
  • Beneficios a empresas de la Unión Europea para prestar servicios, invertir y competir por contratos públicos en Chile.
  • Facilita el comercio para las PYMES: Reducción de trámites burocráticos y nuevas herramientas en línea, entre otros.

New Advanced Framework Agreement between Chile and the European Union 

In order to strengthen trade relations and foreign investment, on December 13, 2023, Chile and the European Union signed the Advanced Framework Agreement (the “Agreement”).

The core of the Agreement is based on sustainability, technological innovation, tariff elimination, investment, and legal certainty for small and medium-sized enterprises (“SME”).

Among the main innovations of the Agreement, we can highlight the following:

  • It contributes to the transition towards renewable energies and the sustainable use of raw materials: greater access to raw materials and clean fuels, and environmental impact assessment, among others.
  • Renewed focus on science, technology, research, and cooperation aimed at innovation.
  • Tariffs elimination: 99.9% of exports from the European Union will be able to enter Chile duty free. Chile will eliminate tariffs on dairy products.
  • Benefits for European Union companies to provide services, invest, and compete for public contracts in Chile.
  • Facilitates trade for SME: Reduction of bureaucratic procedures and new online tools, among others.
